KHWARAZMIA. King Sawshafan, circa 751-762. Drachm (Silver, 27 mm, 3.09 g, 1 h). Draped bust of Sawshafan to right with a two-rowed beaded necklace, wearing Khwarazmian royal head-dress; before head, ‘šʾwšprn’ = ‘Šāwašfarn’ (‘Sawshafan’ in Sogdian); three small circles behind head. Rev. King on horseback to right; Khwarazmian tamgha to left; around, ‘MRʾY MLKʾ syʾwršprn’ = ‘βēndak šāh Syāwaršfarn’ (‘Lord [and] King Sawshafan’ in Khwarazmian). Lurje 1160. Vainberg Type Γ V. Very rare and in exceptional condition for the issue. Struck from slightly worn dies, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
